Thanks Wonderwool!

A massive thank you to all who visited our stand at Wonderwool Wales last weekend.

We had a fab time staying in a lovely cottage on a lovely farm nestled on a hillside in the beautiful Builth Wells countryside, whilst (of course), sharing our woolly wares with you.

KBN Minis & a brief Knit by Numbers history

Our Knit by Numbers range is what we would consider our most show stopping display. We are, therefore, going to share a brief history of KBN before we tell you the really exciting news, (by the way, it’s small and cute.)

A small idea with big potential created by John almost 7 years ago. The Knit by Numbers range is named after one of John’s fun pastimes when he was a child – Paint By Numbers, whilst at the same time being a homage to the celebrated Pantone colour charts.

Diesis by Alice Caetano for Pom Pom Quarterly using Knit by Numbers & Viola

Entering August normally means everyone is getting excited for summer holidays and going to the beach!

However over here, us knitters, spinners, crocheters and crafters are getting excited as it means its coming closer to sweater weather! Don’t get us wrong we love the British summer time and the seaside. But what about all the knitting!?

The perfectly timed arrival of Pom Pom Quarterly’s Issue 22 has got us thinking! A beautiful issue as ever, you can see every item to knit here on their Ravelry page.

Unravel this weekend!

HOT OFF THE PRESS!

Devonia

This week we have been able to whip up some coloured Devonia Tops in blends we have been busily working on behind the scenes. We are coming to the final stages of our colour sampling and swatching, all of course influenced by Jean Lurcat, an incredible French Tapestry artist. We cant wait to share our process and start spinning the yarn!

We will be bringing FIVE of the blended Tops on their first ever outing to Unravel this weekend, the blend is from three of our local sheep, 50% Exmoor Blueface, 30% Devon Bluefaced Leicester, 20% Devon Wensleydale.

Gino!

Last week was a flurry of organising and tidying in the Mill before the arrival of two special Italians! One was human, and one, not so much.

So, without further ado, let us introduce you to out newest member of the team… GINO! He is the non-human Italian and is our first ever brand new piece of machinery (all the others being 2nd hand and re-furbished). Gino is a lovely and shiny new cone winder. He goes super fast and is very clever. And he came with the human Italian – an engineer who came to install Gino for us and teach us all the finer points on how to use him to his utmost! We have let the human go now (thanks Massimo!) and Gino is now settling in quite nicely.

So, here are some photos of him being moved into his new home.

Yarndale antics

Now back and unpacked from Yarndale we are trying to comprehend the amount of Knit by Numbers cubby holes we have to fill! We had an amazing show and really enjoyed it, even with the trauma of not being able to open our very stuck trailer door on arrival, (See the photo of John wrestling the sign in on our Instagram here.) without the aid of a shepherd’s crook and the lovely duo that are Freyalyn Fibres!

Thanks to everyone that came to visit us over the weekend. We always have so much fun talking to people about the yarns they are choosing for their latest projects, whilst weighing out Tops that are destined to be spun up or felted. It’s fab to meet so many people learning new skills and trying out new crafts. A special thank you to the lovely organisers for all their hard work and splendid young men for helping us pack all our stuff up and Freyalyn Fibres for helping sort our trailer.

We were so humbled and excited to see how well the Knit by Numbers in 4ply was received. The new Grape range is almost all gone, but we still have a special stash of each colour available via the Secret Mill Member page. And, on this secret Mill Members page, you can also find the beautiful Devon bred Bluefaced Leicester with Silk tops that are so beautifully scrumptuous.

Some of you may have seen, and even bought, some of our new Devonia Top – a gorgeous blend of Exmoor Blueface, Devon Bluefaced Leicester and Devon Wensleydale. A real home grown blend … and I am sure John told some of you the story of this, but, if not, more on that soon ; – )

Anyway, our next show we will be a slightly different affair … Frankie will be going to Yarnporium in London with some carefully selected yarns and brand new patterns! Keep your eyes peeled for more info over the coming week.
